Personal Prayer

When the disciples heard Jesus praying to the father, they said “Lord teach us to pray.” Luke 11:2

Those were my words over 40 years ago when I realized the importance of prayer.

As a fairly new believer, I started to attend a weekly prayer group that met at the Armaly home. They called themselves the Woodslee Prayer Community.

I was in awe when I heard them pray. They knew Jesus, the One they were praying to in an intimate way. I wanted that also. I hungered for it. I stepped out in faith and battled fear and intimidation but I felt compelled to attend every week so I could learn how to pray. I listened and I learned little by little how to pray as the Holy Spirit taught me.

It became apparent that this group spent personal time with Jesus and had developed a close relationship with him.

So I got up early each day before going to work and many times during the night to pray. Sometimes I prayed but many times I just sat with Him. Eventually my prayer life increased and I developed a passion for prayer.

I am still asking the Lord to teach me how to pray. As we draw closer and closer to Him we can't help but pray. It becomes a central part of our relationship with Him.

It is an honour and a privilege to co-labour with the Lord in prayer. He trusts us to release His Kingdom on earth, and one way we do that is through prayer. "Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

As we gather in prayer, the Lord draws us closer to His heart, and we begin to hear His voice more clearly. Often, when we pray before the Sunday service, the words we prayed and declared are confirmed during the service in the songs, prophetic words and the message preached.

Whether you already have a prayer life but want more or are seeking one, take that step of faith and ask Him to give you a passion for prayer.

“And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22

Declaration: Come Holy Spirit, fill me with a passion for prayer. Lord, I declare that I want to increase my prayer life. I ask in faith, teach me to pray.

Let's light up our world : Digital Postcards

Note: It's easiest to do this part from your phone if you are going to use texting or social media to send it. If you are using a computer it is best to email or telegram the postcard.

1. Pick one of the Postcards. 2. Ask Holy Spirit who this is for? 3. Look at the card and ask Holy Spirit for a word of encouragement for them.  4. Send the postcard with the word of encouragement.
