The Devo:

God is for you.

Romans 8:28  “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

It was January 2002, a day that changed my eternity. It was a normal day like any other until it wasn’t. There was a press malfunction at the plant and my hands had both got caught. As I lay on the stretcher and my gloves were removed the realization hit quickly that my hands were never going to function the same again. How would I be able to work. How would I support Nancy my wife and Abby my little girl who was 4 months old. As you can imagine, fear rushed over me as I waited for the ambulance.

But God was listening to my thoughts.

I didn’t know him as my personal saviour, oh I was religious and thought I was a good person therefore I was ok with God. But God was right there. Coming to my rescue, encountering me with two simple phrases. It wasn’t audible, it was a voice in my head, that I knew was God.

He said, You will be ok. I will provide for you. In that moment I believed him.

Within that same moment He filled me with a peace that was far beyond mental understanding. It was deep within me and it would last. Although fear and frustration tried at different times to return, His peace lasted. In fact, it drew me to know him.

It began my journey of finding Him, after he found me on that stretcher that day.

In August I was invited to gospel tent meetings. I heard the message of salvation, and I knew that’s it! That’s what I knew I needed. I realized that all my religious deeds were nothing. They were, as Isaiah 64:6 says, "filthy rags". I was bankrupt and had nothing to offer.

Did you hear that, God came to me when I was bankrupt spiritually, having nothing to offer and He gave me His peace that drew me to Him. What an amazing God we have. My miracle didn’t happen in a way that my hands were miraculously remade but in the midst of what the enemy thought was my destruction, He remade me. He transformed me for all eternity. In the next coming years that peace never left.

What I want you to be amazed with today is not my ability to believe or my attitude or my hopeful demeanor. I want you to be amazed with Jesus. He is for you, not against you. He is working behind the scenes, even in life’s most difficult moments. He didn’t cause that moment to draw me to Him, but like Romans 8:28 says, “He works all things for our good.” It seems He even does it for those that have yet to know him personally.

Maybe you are like I was, religious, but you recognize today that you need Him. You recognize that you too are bankrupt spiritually and you need a saviour. I assure you if you ask Him to forgive you for your sin, He will come in and fill you with His peace. He will change your eternity too.

Maybe you know Jesus as your personal saviour but life’s difficulties have stolen your peace. He is for you. He is a good God who loves you and wants to fill you.

Take a minute today and be in awe of Jesus. Ask Holy Spirit to show you that Jesus is right here right now, no matter what you are going through. He is right here to give you His peace, a peace that lasts, a peace that is not according to anything we have earned but is totally and emphatically based on His love for you.

Go ahead, ask him to fill you right now with His peace. It will draw you to Him and change your eternity.
